PUNKROCK 1. What motivated and inspired you to start a punkband??? Steve E. Nix: Just a genuine love for punk rock. When we started, as far as we could tell, not many bands were playing the kind of stuff we’re into. Like first wave punk rock. Like songs with hooks. Our attitude was, and is, “screw all this emo shit and NOFX wanna-be garbage that’s passing as punk. Let’s play stuff like the Vibrators and the Boys and the Angry Samoans!” 2. What are you day jobs and tell me about the members??? Steve E. Nix: I hate day jobs and try to avoid them. When I have to work, I hand out coupons for a downtown pizza restaurant. I’m there on the streets, and people are calling me names and throwing rocks at me because they know the pizza isn’t very good. Hey, I’m just trying to pay the rent! The other members, Daniel, Chris and Lance all are excellent people and very proficient musicians at a second or third grade level. Just like me. 3. Who came up with bandname??? Steve E. Nix: I did. No one had a better one. 4.How did you get turned on to punk rock??? Steve E. Nix: When I was a teenager I just naturally found it. Y’know, my friends would steal Black Flag tapes from their older brothers, and we’d skate half pipes and blast punk rock music. I related to it instantly. When I was a kid the punk shows seemed really scary with a lot of the drugs and violence that was going on in the scene in the 80’s. I kind of liked that. I liked being a little scared. 5. Do you have some nice memories about your first punk rock steps??? Steve E. Nix: Yeah, around Halloween time, my friend and I would steal a bunch of pumpkins from in front of the supermarket… then we’d cut holes in the tops of them and fill them with gasoline and then light them on fire and roll them down the longest, steepest city streets. At night of course. hat was a blast! To me that’s a pretty healthy punk rock activity. If I tried that thing now, I’m sure I would get caught. 6. What was the last records you bought??? Steve E. Nix: The Diskords-Blame it on the Kids, and Hell Comes To Your House- Vol. One. I buy a lot of records, mostly old stuff but there’s some new bands like the Diskords that I’m excited to listen to. 7. Do you tour a lot or do you stay most of time in your country and playing shows on weekend??? How popular are you in your area?? Steve E. Nix: We tour a lot. I’m sure we are on tour at least 6 months a year. We’ve toured both the US and Europe quite a few times. We’re hoping to go to Japan soon! In Seattle we’re pretty popular I guess. 8. What’s the most important “pre-show ritual” that you always performs??? Steve E. Nix: Look at the set list to make sure I remember the words to the songs I have to sing. 9. What are the most memorable /less memorable shows you`ve played??? Steve E. Nix: Most memorable was touring with the Damned and also with TSOL. The shows were great because we were playing with our heroes, and also they happened to be really cool guys. The least memorable show… was so unmemorable that I can’t remember it. 10. Are you happy with your “news” record??? Do you like how it sound??? Steve E. Nix: I like our new record a lot. It’s classic Briefs. It’s a good punk rock record. 11. How would you each of you characterize the others styles in the band??? Steve E. Nix: Dan is sort of like a Stormtrooper, Chris is sort of like C3PO, Lance is sort of like a mix between Lando Carlrissian and one of the Sand People, and I’m totally a dashing Han Solo mixed with a Jawa. 12. Could you tell us, for example two or three of your fave tunes and lyrics you wrote??? Steve E. Nix: Favorite songs today are: I Think My Baby Is A Communist, C’mon Squash Me Like A Bug, Love And Ulcers, Ephedrine Blue. My favourite lyrics are from Killed By Ants – “ That boy was killed by ants. They bit him hard, there was nothing left. On a desert in Africa, he tried to beat them with a spatula.” 13. What`s the biggest barrier to the Band??? Steve E. Nix: The Briefs recognise no barriers. 14. What`s next for The Briefs??? Steve E. Nix: We are about to leave for a 2 month tour of the USA and Europe to support our new album Sex Objects on BYO Records. Come to the show! 15. Final Words??? Steve E. Nix: Um, no. Don’t just search. Find. Check out the new MSN Search! Stay Wild nasty
